KEEP YOUR SEVEN ON TRACK

A while ago, frustrated with trying to set up the tracking on my Seven with a piece of string, I created this laser tracking device, the kit of compo-nents are shown below. They are two adjustable legs, angled beam, two support posts, laser level and a gauge plate.

They are assembled as shown below and placed against the rear rim.
The gauge is then set against the rear of the front wheel rim and then against the front of the rim, waggle the steering wheel until the laser point is at the same position on the gauge at both sides of the rim.

This procedure is repeated on the other side of the car, then the difference across the front rim is your toe-in. It should be ⅛” for an Austin Seven.

If the toe in is not correct, then the car may wander or be (even more) skittish on the road, nd will cause uneven wear on the front tyres.
Unfortunately, the laser point does not show very clearly in the photos. It is actually brighter and more defined. (The photos have been edited to show the laser spot artificially). Needless to say, ensure that your rims are not buckled or distorted before carrying out any adjustments.
